First Aid Kit For PetsMost people make sure they have first aid kits available at home in case a family member accidently gets cut or burned.  But how many pet owners have taken into consideration that a first aid kit is just as important for their pets?  There are many different types of pet first aid kits with the essentials needed in case your pet gets injured whether at home or while travelling.  Whether you have a dog, cat, rabbit, ferret, or bird, or any other kind of pet, it’s important to have a first aid kit ready and available just in case because you never know!  Most first aid kits have instruction cards included so you’ll know what to do before taking your pet to the vet if they have sustained a serious injury.  Show your pets how much you love them by being prepared with a first aid kit that may save their life.

I agree with Betty Ann. I can personally attest to the importance of having a first aid kit close at hand that has all of the essentials that might be needed for pets. My cat somehow got out of the house one day and was gone for hours. I was so worried about him and when he finally did return, it was apparent he had gotten into a fight with the neighborhood bully cat. He had a big gash in his tail where the other cat had gotten a hold of him. I was so thankful I had that first aid kit! I was able to clean and bandage up his wound to control the bleeding until I could get him to the vet’s office which is about 20 minutes from our house. The vet commended me on being smart enough to have that first aid kit on hand and it probably helped my cat heal faster because he received medical attention from me right away.

I, too, bought a first aid kit made especially for dogs because my husband takes our dog out hunting and I’m always worried our dog is going to get hurt somehow. Since the pet first aid kit is portable, it makes it easy for my husband to take with him on hunting trips and it’s always handy just in case. So far, we haven’t had to use it, but you never know and it will be there if we do need it.
